Lopi Leyden
The Lopi Leyden is a top load stove by design with the largest firebox available in a medium sized stove.
The Leyden includes Lopi's fine quality details in the castings, inside and out. The non-catalytic cross-draft system, heavy-duty-refractory, unbelievable combustion and the option of a 160 CFM blower make this stove worthy of a closer look. Lopi even includes a custom designed, extra-long wrought iron poker and gloves for added convenience.
- Heats up to 2000 square feet
- Weighs in at 503 lbs.
- Will take 21" logs
- Burns at 73,100 BTUs/hr.

We purchased the Leyden stove because of its EPA rating. It replaced a Vermont Castings Resolute which we had successfully used as our main heat source for over 30 years. After one burning season the Leyden literally fell apart. The Dealer sent out a repairman and we were back in business ... sort of .... one more season of use and it crumbled apart again. The Dealer replaced the stove. One more ...Overall Performance:

I forgot to mention in my previous review just minutes ago that we purchased the Lopi Leyden wood stove in 2013 and we have just learned that it was pulled off the market in 2012. We were never made aware of this when we purchased it and apparently that's why nobody including Travis Industries wants to work with us! That's probably why our dealer doesn't sell Lopi stoves anymore! How can a ...Overall Performance:

I am going to agree with most of the other poor reviews. This stove is a very expensive piece of junk! We have burned with wood stoves all of our lives and we are in our 50's now. In 2013 we bought the Lopi Leyden wood stove and, like a lot of other people, the first-year it worked great. After that smoke started leaking into the room more and more setting off our smoke detectors. Then on a cold ...Overall Performance:

My second round of having to replace piece 1 and 2, also piece 7 which holds piece 2 in. Made of metal. We were told this was an efficient stove (it is), and that other than normal door and top insulation, this is a long lasting stove. This is a very money starved pit. always having to replace inner metal piece and brick. I have never had to clean my chimney as I burn seasoned wood. After being ...Overall Performance:

It’s pretty. It heats well. It ends there. This thing is a $3000+ POS!!!! The combuster assembly in rear burned out every year and needed replacing. The company was great until year 7 then they wanted to bill me for parts. It costs more in annual replacement parts than it would to heat my home w gas. Do not buy this stove!!!!! It’s a beautiful cast iron piece of junk.Overall Performance:

I have the Avalon Arbor version of this stove that I bought in 2009. It is beautiful, burns well, and burns efficiently. But constant maintenance. Have to replace the combustor every other season, which is a $400, six hour project. If you want an efficient stove, you're dealing with a catalytic converter or a combustor. But the cost on these is overwhelming relative to other stoves. ...Overall Performance:

I spoke too soon and would change my rating if I could. After the combustor fell apart I called the dealer. A new combustor with tax and shipping costs $420. Competitors combustors were a 3rd of that cost. Several dealers quoted the same price and stated they didn't set the price. Sent a message on the Lopi support page and never got a response. There must only be 2 combustors left for this ...Overall Performance:

Bought this stove in 2008. I keep it running all winter long. Now in 2016 is the first time I've had any issues. Need to replace the combustor. People need to understand that these stoves need to be cleaned (firebricks removed) twice a year if you use it all winter. You can't just throw logs in and let it run for 3 years straight. Also it is CRITICAL that you run a stove with a temperature ...Overall Performance:

I bought this stove, I was happy for the first two years, after that it has cost me more money to repair it and to keep it running. This year so far I have paid $400.00 dollars out in service calls, (4 Visits) and $300.00 in parts. I really don't think it is worth keeping. I bought the stove to supplement my propane heating costs, but it is costing me more to run it than the cost of propane. Very ...Overall Performance:

Our first Leyden was such a piece of junk that Travis Industries replaced it. Now, almost 6 years later, the top of the stove has several cracks in it. No wonder they don't make it anymore. Don't ever by anything from this company. They only produce junk.Overall Performance:

I have owned my stove for three years now and have really enjoyed it. I have not had any problems with it as others seem to have. I suspect, that most all of the problems others have experienced with this stove can be summed up in two words, *over firing*. I run my stove with a burn temperature indicator installed on it, and have always kept it firmly in the middle of the normal burn ...Overall Performance:

Contrary to everyone else's review, I have had very good use out of my Leydon wood stove. I purchased and installed back in 2008, and have used this stove every winter since. I have had no problems with any of the parts, and no cracking of the top either. It is beautiful in my den and will hold coals all night when I'm at work, even on a 12 hour shift. I am Very happy with my Leydon stove!!Overall Performance:

We have had this stove for 5 years now. The fact you can't get parts for it makes maintaining it time consuming, frustrating and dangerous as complete cleanings get skipped do to difficulty and cost. Instructions for care of the stove require almost a complete dismantle to remove ash build up behind the combustion pack to keep it burning properly, which it did in the beginning. This ruins the ...Overall Performance:

Like nearly everyone else, this stove started out great and got worse every year. The last straw was when it started runaway combustion twice this year. I know it needs to be totally rebuilt, but I'm just not confident it will ever be a reliable stove. I'm 68 years old and have heated with wood every year of my life except college. I know wood stoves and this one is a dangerous piece of junk.Overall Performance:

We've had this stove since 2008. After a year was having trouble getting it hoT and notice loss of efficiency. Again deteriorated combusted . Gave me 2 spares and offered to replace it with another stove. I stuck ...Overall Performance:

Like others I've had the top loading door replaced due to cracks and there is a second one on that replacement now! I need to replace the firebrick and thats expensive. Wow!!!! I called Travis Industries customer service to express my feelings about this stove. I thought this stove was great when I bought it in 2011. Three combustor packs and a cracked top later.....not so great. Real junk. We've had this stove about two years now and overall are quite happy with it. We wanted a stove that would give us an "overnight" burn and it will do that with the proper fuel. Larger pieces of dense, dry wood should give you a long burn. Smaller pieces just go too fast and the firebox has too much "air" in it. The stove is easy to regulate with the single air control on the front. Opening ...Overall Performance:

stove performs inconsistently, sometimes a long burn (8 hours +) but mostly it wont damp down and burn time is usually 3-4 hours max. Frustrating you cant talk to factory. Local dealer will come out and look at stove for $125 minimum service fee. Had Vermont Castings top load stove for many years before moving, it is a FAR superior stove to the Lopi.Overall Performance:

I have heated my home strictly with wood and have had no other heat source for 30 years. I purchased my Lopi Leyden Wood Stove in 2007 when I became employed at a job working 12 hour rotating shifts with a 3 hour total commute. Purchased in 2009 and have used effectively, daily, to heat large house. But it is high maintenance. Within a year my local dealer/installer replaced the firebox, under warranty. Good service. 2013 the firebox has a crack (I think that was the issue when replaced under warranty). Maintenance is a major chore, removing firebox and all the fire ash and creosote that accumulates there. I ...Overall Performance:

I have had the Leyden for more than 2 years and I simply love it! I read the reviews and did research on it before hand and figured that a lot of the bad comments on it were simply because people didn't understand how to use their stove the right way and or didn't keep good care of it. I have not had a single problem with it the whole time I have had it and it has just been an all around solid ...Overall Performance:

Upgraded from a Lopi Patroit - needed more heat. Reasonable performance the first year of use, but lots of smoke. Then I discovered that at 8000 foot altitude it required about 30 to 40 feet of chimney to draw properly - or a forced draft. Next fall will see a new stove!!!!Overall Performance:

I have noticed the first complaint about this stove is customer service. That complaint is being directed in the wrong place. Yes, Lopi the company built it. They are not the ones who sold it to you. Here's a phone number for their factory tours. They might be willing to connect you to their parts or service department. Phone: 425-609-2500 It's the only phone number I could find. We're considering a new stove, including the Leyden, but are less than impressed with how hard it is to contact some of the manufacturers via phone.
