I have been struggling with this stove for years. I wanted a stove with a remote fresh air source since my home is extremely tight. It just does not get adequate combustion air, you must crack the ash door to maintain the fire. Cleaning involves disassembling the stove and vacuuming the air ports at least once a week or what little combustion air you get will be blocked by ash. The ash builds up ...Overall Performance:

Have been using for 12 years and would agree with many of the criticisms: small ash pan and less than dynamic heat output compared to my previous Napoleon. Dirtiest stove I've ever owned, don't ever open front door! One plus is 24 inch capabilityOverall Performance:

Widespread flaking of enamel, starting about 2 years after purchase, not provoked by water on unit, or anything else I can identify. Unit arrived with sticking of flue control, service technician subsequently found internal componentscwere bent. I think the company may have a poor quality control process.Overall Performance:

Basically this stove sucks. Growing up with coal and wood stoves, heating with various cheap to moderate priced stoves for 40 years, I decided to get a high priced efficiency stove. Man was it ever a high priced mistake. Regardless of how big of a fire is burning, it goes through as much wood as my first cheap Franklin stove in the mid 70’s. Yet it doesn’t heat as well. At no time has ...Overall Performance:

I have been using this stove since 2006 and it has been my best stove since burning for the last 38 years. One way I get longer burning hours is to remove the grate and I build my fires on a 2" bed of ash. This adds a few more hours of use and I keep the stove around 400 degrees. I average around 5 to 6 hours burning times.Overall Performance:

For some reason, this stove kept failing me. Since the day I bought it, it just keeps giving me problems. First, it is hard to get started. I followed the instructions strictly in the manual but still it won’t work effectively. I got so frustrated with it that I kept it in my attic for quite some time. Few weeks ago, I bought it out and tried it again. Still the same. I gave up. This is not the ...Overall Performance:

If you enjoy burning more cords than necessary, then go ahead and buy this stove. I have multiple experiences and in one instance my cord usage was half of the neighbors, another instance I replaced an Oslo with a Woodstock Progress and burned 3 cords less. The Progress came to VT with me and in a 2500 sf house I burned a little over 2 cords last year.Overall Performance:

I've been burning wood for 35+ years and am careful about burning well seasoned wood. I bought this stove as a replacement for Dovre which was difficult to find parts (after 25 years of excellent performance). Unfortunately The Jotul has been a total disappointment. It consumes much more wood than I expected as a new air tight stove and far more than the Dovre. It's touchy about keeping a hot ...Overall Performance:

This stove came with the house I bought. I checked with the 'dollar method' and with smoke that the gaskets are ok , the air vent control is ok and the hard wood I use is dry. It gives plenty of heat. The problem is that the fire will last less than 3 hours with a full load of wood and the vent closed.Overall Performance:

Its a decent stove but way over priced for what you get. My reburner kept falling i had to weld it to fix that. also the air intake lever keeps coming disconnected from the plat inside. the bottom draft door latch comes apart all the time. this is crap i would expect from a home depot model.Overall Performance:

I experienced the out of control burn, but it is an easy fix. Disassemble the vent control by removing the 2 bolts inside the front door and the cover. Remove the sliding door. You will find the bottom surface not flat enough which leaves a space for the air to enter the for fire area in the fully closed position. Take large piece of Emory sand paper on a flat surface a sand the bottom of the ...Overall Performance:

I live in Canada and I have owned many different wood stove for over 40 years. We have had this stove for 5 years in our 1800 Sq feet cape cod and we burn 3 cords of hard wood and 1 cord of soft wood per year. This stove is not perfect and I agree about the dust pan being too small. I clean the entire stove once a week after it has cooled down overnight and use a shop vac with hepa filter. The ...Overall Performance:

I have been buring wood for many years as well and this stove is superb. I actually read the owners manual cover to cover and experience none of the problems the complainers are having. First it will emit a burning smell for the first few uses which is non toxic and will go away after the outer coating evaporates. If you follow the Youtube instructions for lighting, it will never take more than ...Overall Performance:

Takes awhile to get it going and have to open bottom door to create enough air to get fire going. Internal draft mechanism is not enough and I have a good drafting chimney and flu. Burns nice and steady once you get coals going, but hard to get it hot enough to burn off creosote on a regular basis.Overall Performance:

This is my third wood stove, have been burning for over 30 years. The reputation, side load/log length capacity feature and general appearance were the key points in my decision to buy this stove. I've had it for 4 burning seasons and it is by far the worst stove I've had. My biggest complaint is the heat out put is terrible for the amount of wood it consumes. I am very careful to have a clean ...Overall Performance:

We bought the stove expecting it to provide about 80% of the heat for our 2500sqft single level house and it does a good job. But, it’s a pain to use because of some easily avoidable design flaws with the ash pan. First, the ash pan has an air space between it and the grate, so what happens is that you constantly have ash scrapped off into the pan area when you pull out the ash pan. Now your on ...Overall Performance:

I purchased three Jotul stoves. I traded one in and sold one. I still have the third one. I replaced the two with Quqdrifire stoves. Much better stove! The Jotuls were too hard to get started - not enough draft - and they would sometimes stink the house up. My chimneys are first class - new home. Had the dealer and company rep to my home and they could not fix them. They tried new gaskets and ...Overall Performance:

I have had this stove for four years. Installed in my basement of my ranch house and my average tempature in the upstairs is 70 degrees. I haven't experienced any problems with the damper. I burn 24/7 from October to the end of March. A well packed stove with seasoned wood last all night and reignites the next load very easily. When used properly I have zero smoke from the chimney. I just experienced the same problem that I think medbill411 and Keystonedig reported in reviews on this site. We love this stove Jotul Oslo F500CB purchased in July 2009. This evening, Christmas eve, the damper control would no longer reduce the volume of air for combustion. The stove was pretty full when this started and burning vigorously. Fortunately, I didn't have a more serious problem this ...Overall Performance:

Installed this stove about 4 years ago now I think and we LOVE it! It burns 24/7 and heads our colonial style home (2200 sq ft) nicely. Right now I am stilling here with the rear door of the house open and its 27 degrees out because something new is going on with the stove, even with the damper all the way down the fire is burning really well. Not out of control but hot. Think I will let it ...Overall Performance:

Wonderful stove. I had installed this stove in my 1800 sq ft cathedral ceiling cape cod house in 2003. Been using as my primary heat. I burn between 3 to 4 cords of hard wood per season. Burns 24 hrs. I open side door and ash door together to empty ashes . Glass stays clean if you burn dry wood. Clean double walled pipe which is a good 24-26 ft long twice per season. Top cap is the reason I clean ...
