I bought this stove used about 10 years ago.The stove was stored in the persons garage and was all rust.I tore stove apart and cleaned and wire brushed the entire stove.painted and stove polished and did first burn outside on deck.i left the interior damper wide open and installed one in the pipe. This stove has never let me down or smoked. We just love this stove. We live in northern new york close ...Overall Performance:

I've used my DW for about 4 seasons, replacing an older non-air tight stove. I couldn't be more disappointed. The creosote is ridiculous. I try to run it with the damper open as often as possible to keep it hot enough to avoid the cooler exhaust. Using well seasoned hardwood. Never had an issue with the old stove that the DW replaced. I'd assume next trick with the DW will be that it'll need ...Overall Performance:

Owned this stove for five years and it ran great until now where it backpuffs overfires and runs excessively hot to where a damper in the pipe became necessary. Even after replacing all gaskets and modifying the air manifold it is still not running properly. I no longer trust this stove and must constantly check it as if is not predictible. Regret buying this piece of shit and yes my wood is well ...Overall Performance:

This is the 6th DW 2461 I have had and at one time had 2 in the same 4500 sq' home in the mountains of western Maryland. One previous review is negative but all I will say is, it has worked fine for me. Choice of firewood is paramount and changing the catalytic converter every other year is a good idea. I have never had any difficulties with any of mine.Overall Performance:

My son used his for 5 years and loved it. It kept their home warm. Now I have it in my garage and need to get rid of it. I know nothing about wood burners I'm not sure what a catalytic converter is. Not sure what price to ask for, it only 5 or 6 yrs old, no problems with it, comes will all pipes. Anyone got any suggestions?Overall Performance:

Had one for 5 years, and wouldn't recommend to buy. Reason why: suicidal stove and expansive to maintain. Replaced twice same parts: inner top, damper, & right end refectory. Rear reflector burned out completely. Probable cause: POOR DESIGN, inner top heats up & starts to cave in leaving big gap between damper, it's like running stove with open damper all the time. Stove starts to overheat. So in ...Overall Performance:

I've owned a Large, catalytic unit for almost 20 years. Yes the catalytic unit needs to be replaced every 2 years or less. I did an overhaul after about 15 years because the side had a crack. The overhaul was $500. Last year I replaced another $500 worth of parts. The top inner unit needs to be replaced next. The damper has broken loose several times. It's easy to fix, but requires removing the ...Overall Performance:

On second Dutchwest Large. We "wrapped" the top inside panel on the first one from 1990 by overheating the box. Biggest thing to do is to watch the thermometer. After the first stove, we replace them every two years and clean them several times a year. Back puffing occurs when we get a strong down draft in the chimney or the fire is built to close to the door. We load the wood towards the back ...Overall Performance:

I am a very new user, months. So far, I love it. I am still figuring everything out. I got this as a hand-me-down. I Lost the thermometer in the move and I was looking for the help of a more experienced burner. So my question, what does the fire "look like" when it is time to close the damper? this would really help me out. oh, and I have already ordered a new thermometer.Overall Performance:

Got my stove in 2000. On my 3rd Cat. the second one was bad from the supplier. They made it right. I have a question about damper. When stove is hot and need to add wood the damper is hard to open, it's like that bar is warped. If any one can help me with this problem I would appreciate the help. What I need to do? The first year we ran this stove it was a complete disaster. Back puffing and it almost required running with the ash door open. We replaced the gaskets and sealed the glass on the door and it mitigated most of the back puffing. I then noticed the oval flue had a 1/4" gap around the insert and the doors were not closing tightly. Sealing *all* of the gaps in flue system and adjusting the ...Overall Performance:

LOVE this stove. It heats our little home great and once you know how to work it, which isn't hard at all then you won't have any of the issues people cited. Those are all owner operator error. The manual is very good and describes all you need to have for this stove. Ours has been working great for 8 years now! Looking at getting another one.Overall Performance:

Bought stove new in 2009. I have replaced the catalytic converter twice. The dealer paid for both. The converters literally broke apart. I have cleaned the converter in the stove, but it looks like it is going to do the same as the others. I would love to get a full winter out of the stove.Overall Performance:

We've been using the 2461(large) stove for 18 years. Use it mostly on Dec.25th,Jan, and Feb. Changed the catalytic converter. I now want to sell it because, at 75, I no longer want to get wood around. It has a square side door with a air controll and an air controll in the as door. Have had this stove for 12 years. Salesman said it was a real workhorse and he was right. Will effectively heat a well insulated 2000+ square foot home for about a 6 hour burn time. Have replaced catalyst twice. Anyone reporting problems with this stove wasn't burning well seasoned wood or needed to maintain the catalyst. I burn mine 24/7 from late october through mid march in New Hampshire. ...Overall Performance:

Great stove and in use for over 5 years. Get a Vogelzang type stove themometer from any hardware store to monitor temp levels. Catalytic converter works best at 500+ degrees and burns less wood on this setting. Plan on replacing the door seal in about 2 years (cheap from hardware store). One thing you will need to get used to is sighting the position of the converter handle so you don't open ...Overall Performance:

GREAT STOVE 2006 MADE IN U.S.A. CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS A LEARNING CURVE BUT ONCE YOU GET USE TO OPENING THE BYPASS DAMPNER AND LETTING THE "CAT"GET TO 500 DEG. F THEN SWITCHING THE DAMPNER TO "CAT" MODE LIFE IS GOOD!MAKE SURE BY PASS DAMPNER IS OPEN WHEN YOU LOAD WOOD THIS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF ANY"BACKPUFFING".Overall Performance:

Had mine, a used one, since January this year (previous owner needed a bigger stove). Bought 5 cord of wood and still have approx. 2 cords left. Replaced most gasket seals. I have been using the Duchwest "large" for about three weeks. Very satisfactory so far. It is clean, provides lots of heat, fire lasts over night with enough coals left to quickly restart the fire. The Catalytic Combustor lights off on schadule at 500 degrees It is I think a good choice for those needing a stove to use 24/7.Overall Performance:
