Review: Drolet Classic Model DB03080
Drolet wood stove on pedistal
Been running various wood stoves for 20 years and have never came across such an absolutely horrid stove. Entirely too air tight they need constant monitoring and frigging with the draught and door to not only light but keep going. The fire box is way to shallow (about one and a half inches deep) and needs cleaning daily. Not only a big hassle but also making them very VERY unsafe because of this. I have to keep a jar of water by the stove because live coals fall out of it all over the floor with no way to avoid it. Their little "catch tray" does nothing. When filling the stove it is impossible not to push live coals out or ashes and you will get about two sticks in at once if your fortunate. Giving about a three hour burn time. And you had better have an entire soft wood tree to get it started. The door must be left open to start them but you can not leave them unattended during lighting. As when getting them going the wood clearly shifts as it burns and will fall against the door (again which you can't close because their draught system is completely useless) causing burning kindling and live coals to fall out all over the place. A direct result of a fire box that is to shallow and a beyond poor draught system. The initial lighting will take about an hour. Do not waste your money on this garbage unless you have fire insurance with a high payout. And or plan on never using it. I can not stress it enough DO NOT BLOODY BOTHER WITH THEIR STOVES!! If you love your house your family and animals DO NOT BUY THESE STOVES!! they are nothing more than extremly poor designed messy fire hazards.
