Lopi Endeavor
We purchased the LOPI Endeavor Wood stove 2 months ago, going into early November 2015. This is our third wood stove in 4-plus decades. Our prior wood stoves were the Country brand wood stoves. This company was eventually renamed to another brand name. After much research, and visiting several wood variety showrooms, we decided on the LOPI Endeavor. What we liked about this stove was the 2-tear level top surface. The glass door allows for viewing a nice fire, and is large enough inside the box to accommodate reasonable amounts of wood. The thickness of all the metal surfaces is one of the thickest we have found. This is important to compare metal thickness. The thicker the better, less chance of warping metals, and better holding of heat radiating longer after fires reduce. Having had several power outages due to storms, we learned early on, the value of being able to actually cook on the top of a wood stove, so we wanted to make certain the top surface would easily accommodate a cast iron fry pan, a big pot for boiling water, or cooking a good homemade soup. ( you get the picture). We have gone without power as much as 17 days in a row, ( severe windstorms making the power restoration companies do the best they could under extreme conditions ). We opted for NO ash tray. We have had removable ash trays in past stoves, and frankly, ash trays are worse at trying to clean the ash out, make a bigger mess, when it's so easy to buy a cheap ash tray shovel and scoop out the ash directly into a metal pail. Less clean up, in our humble opinion. We would recommend this particular model. We did invest about $24.00 and purchase the "Rutland Burn Indicator", metal and magnetic thermometer. We had never had one with prior stoves. It is a very small metal wood stove thermometer. Place the metal magnetic thermometer on the horizontal cook top surface. It's magnetic, does not slide around easily, yet can easily be repositioned. This handy little device truly allows you to see at any point in time, what the surface temperature of your wood stove is registering. The recommended range indicator advises to keep the surface temperature within a 400 - 600 degree range. This is easier on the metal welding of the inner and outer walls of your woodstove,-- protecting the stoves welded seams from accidently reaching a too hot temperature, and possible warping. A good and cheap investment, in our opinion. Even the best of the best stoves can warp, and we have seen wood stove literally glowing with red hot metal sides. Not a good idea, and a serious potential fire hazard. Get the wood stove temperature guide. Nothing like a real wood burning stove to cozy up around on a snowy, cold winters day ! The two dampers are easy access, seem to work quite quickly to slow down a too hot fire, and maintain a very low burn fire for extended periods. WE have not had a 15 degree night so far this season, ... and with our home configuration this wood stove does a good job for our needs. Depending on how your home floor plan in, it pays to make a choice that meets your needs. Our home is quite large, and a spread out floor plan. We have a massive greenhouse window that goes the entire length of one of our kitchen walls of 26 feet. ( We love our view and we love natural light so we give up some insulation value with all the glass exposure, but the wood stove in our huge country kitchen keeps us quite comfortable while also aiding in raising the temp on adjoining rooms.) We do not expect ANY style or wood stove to do the impossible with our massive floor plan, all on one floor. Given that, we are well pleased with the LOPI ENDEAVOR, and have studied at length. This stove is one of few that is made in our state, and frankly, anything that might come out of China, I would avoid like the plague. We know some box stores sell cheap models, but honestly, if you are going to go to the trouble and need of installing a wood stove, try and invest a little more money, and shoot at least for a mid-range quality. We believe we purchased the best, but take time to research, go visit showrooms, and ask lots of questions. Sometimes customer feedback, ( unbiased, hopefully ) is the best feedback.
