Review: Golden Grain Model 1101
Golden Grain Model 1101
I have had my Corn Stove now for 8yrs. and have experience in using this stove. First off I use this model in a 1980sqft home built in 1940, in north east NC. I Love my corn stove it heats the house fine. Sometimes I have to turn it off when we have company. When I installed this I had to go up my current brick chimney which is 20+ feet up. I bought the 4 3'x60' double wall gal/stainless and cap. I haven't been too happy with the quality of the ducting, would love to find a good quality stove pipe to last longer than the 8 yrs. I have had it. Back to the stove...The cleaning is something less desired. Cleaning the burn box is nothing to clean. However, as the heat, smoke and ash rise up over the heat tubes in the upper part of the burn box it builds up ash on the tubes and what doesn't stick the tubes go beyond and fall back under the burn box underneath those 2 little disks to the right and left of the burn box. It also builds up along the side walls leading down below the burn box. I have had a hard time getting/vacuuming the ash. I have had to use a mechanical fingers to loosen and move the ash around and closer to the 2 little disk openings and then vacuuming it from there. After having experience in engineering it might be beneficial to have two 2" opening on each sidewall that could be opened/removed by a threaded plug and then replaced once the area was cleaned out. This the only reason I gave the ease of use a "3" rating. One other tip...I used to use the cinnamon scented fire starter fluid at $4.95 for 8-10 ounces. I ran out and was unable to get any and I started looking around the house for something to start my stove. I found that hand sanitizer has the same alcohol percentage as the fire starting gel...60% at $10.00 for a 32oz. bottle it is was a no brainer.
I continue to enjoy the heat from our corn stove.
