Review: Fahrenheit Technologies Endurance 50F
Fahrenheit Technologies Endurance 50F
Frank from Canada again... I've been owning the F-50 Fahrenheit Endurance since 2008, which is hooked up to my existing oil furnace duct work. It's wonderful! For the 2014/15 season, the F-50 performed flawlessly with their improved parts, keeping the house and the family warm and hassle-free despite my using it all winter long as Canada (Ottawa) went through one of the coldest winter on record (by season's end I'll have used 7.2 tons at a cost of $2,200 CDN), providing me with a $2,603+ saving over what oil would have cost me ($4,800). Therefore I took the family to a Caribbean vacation last week! The saving would have been more were it not for a visitor staying home all day every day for 3 months (usually I program the thermostat lower during the day when no one is home - wife and 2 kids). For this 2014/15 season I installed a small plastic silo outside that contains 6 bags of pellets after I drilled a hole through the basement wall... the 4 inch pipe that originates from it ends at the top of a garbage bin that sits beside the F-50, holding another 3 bags of pellets and I use a bushel to easily transfer the pellets to the hopper, which simplifies the process. As I keep improving the process with experience, this summer I will take the F-50 to the outside, about 6 feet from the house, and build a small insulated shed around it: this way all operations will be done outside, no more ash dust in the basement when I empty the ash pan in the metal garbage bin beside it, no more suit spreading around when I clean it, and no more worries (for whatever reason) from my house insurance company. I'll install the hopper extension to it (my basement ceiling is too low) to save me from having to feed it more often outside with pellets during cold days. This winter I used the oil furnace minimally due to improved F-50 parts and due to insulating my attic with another layer, which proved highly noticeable: I only used oil during my 1-week vacation and a few times to assist when it was colder than -25C (-13F). The F-50 is one nice piece of equipment and I'll be buying another one when my current one needs to be replaced... I simply love it and I highly recommend it (if you don't mind ordering pellets, cleaning the F-50 on occasion, feeling the nicer heat, saving $ thousands and the environment). --- As a side note, my retired mother bought a pellet stove from another company a few months ago (without me knowing about it) and replaced it recently with electric heat as it was not working well, such as not restarting (meaning getting up during the cold nights), pellet accumulations and worse, not self-emptying the ashes from the burner pot like the F-50 does so efficiently: she had to stop her pellet stove daily, let it cool off for an hour (therefore her small house getting cold), and empty the warm pot (every day!) I couldn't believe how good I have it with my F-50! Next step? I'm exploring the possibility to make my own wood pellets to further save...
