Review: St. Croix Lancaster
St. Croix Lancaster 9 year review
I have been using this stove for about 9 years and just love it. Back in 2005 i used corn as it was I believe $125.00 a ton. I burnt corn for probably 4-5 yrs then switched to wood pellets because of price, The corn was very dusty and messy on the siding and actually corroded my aluminum soffets. As far as this stove the main problem I have had is the bearings went out on exhaust blower 2 times as the 1st repair I did not replace all of them. Stated to whine real loud. I did find out that these are standard bearings you can purchase and repair yourself if you are careful, 1st repair I used my sons skateboard bearings and they were an exact fit. 2nd time I ordered Timken sealed bearings and their still going. other than that i would purchase another in a heartbeat if I needed one. Changing the clinker is very easy compared to other stoves I have seen but metal rod sometime pulls out hard. I have had to put a piece of (cell phone screen saver) over the control panel buttons as the original wore out and got holes at the buttons. Good to go now. The only thing I dislike is the standard hopper size which I just deal with s it's rather small in this stove rather than purchasing a taller additional one for a ridiculous price or make a simple one from sheet metal. All in all it heats my 1800 ft house with cathedral ceilings ok but when it get;s down in the teens I also need to use furnace for backup. Hoe this helps someone. These are just my 2 cents worth....
