Quadra-Fire Castile - Highly positve review
Having had our Castile insert for an entire winter now, I have a whole new, positive perspective. True, it did overfeed pellets one time, causing an intense fire. BUT since then, a couple things changed. I learned that different types of pellets put out different heat. Hardwood pellets put out more heat... but make much more ash. With hardwood pellets, I had to clean the stove nearly every day. With softwood pellets, I am now cleaning the stove only once a week. I also learned that you can pack the pellets in the hopper, giving it increased capacity. Simultaneously, it gives it a much better flame. Instead of running the stove on high constantly, I am now running it on medium by packing the hopper. Finally... our Castile got me through nearly 2 weeks of 40 below zero in a poorly insulated, brick ranch. At this point, I am quite impressed!
