Dutchwest Cast Iron Small 2460
I bought this stove used 4 years ago and have heated 3 winters with it. I have an old 3000 sq/ft colonial - not including the unfinished basement. I can keep the first floor of the house ~70 degrees on the coldest days and the upstairs is just fine as we sleep under down comforters. Anyone having backpuffing problems has insuffient draft. With my 24' masonry chimney lined with a stainless liner, I get enough draft to light this guy up in the middle of the summer. I can load it full, turn down, and get a catalytic burn for 6-7 hours, with enough embers to get it lit up 9 hours after. This probably wasn't the best choice for my house, as it's the smallest dutchwest unit. But it is a serious stove and can handle the task. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I seem to recall that mine is one of the original models prior to outsourcing to China - for whatever thats worth. The side panel on mine is cracked - and was cracked when I bought it. I drilled a hole in the end of the crack to keep it from continuing in it's path, slathered stove cement on the inside of the panel and have been running it that way for 3 winters. I clean my chimney once a season, and there's very little creosote that comes out. I get perhaps a half gallon jug full of very light flaky powder for 2 cords of burn.
