I think most of the complaints in reviews are due to a bad chimney. Too big, too cold, too many bends, or blocked with creosote will definitely screw up this stove. You do need to keep the air vents clean, but it isn't hard - about 20 minutes of "post season overhaul" will do the job. Like most black painted stoves, the paint needs to be touched up occasionally. .
