Review: Jotul F500 Oslo
Jotul F500 Oslo
Basically this stove sucks. Growing up with coal and wood stoves, heating with various cheap to moderate priced stoves for 40 years, I decided to get a high priced efficiency stove. Man was it ever a high priced mistake. Regardless of how big of a fire is burning, it goes through as much wood as my first cheap Franklin stove in the mid 70’s. Yet it doesn’t heat as well. At no time has our living room got hot. Just warm. We though with the fans we could heat a couple of rooms with this stove. But we haven’t been able to so far. The air vent set up is a joke. The only way to get a blazing fire is with a door open. Which they say is a no no. But after a lot of fussing and cussing, you can get a fire started, and burn wood, lots of it. But you never really get that warm. A $100 55 gallon drum kit would heat much better. The glass has discolored so bad it might as well come with a solid cast iron door. My wife was hoping to watch the fire, but that can’t happen. All the stoves that I have even used could chase you out of a room. This one, not going to do that. At no time have I ever had a fire in it that I couldn’t lay my hand on top of the stove. Yes, it was warm enough to be uncomfortable, but never hot enough to burn me. So no heating water or cooking on it. To sum it up, I would only recommend this to some one who had never used a wood stove and has enough money to burn both wood and the furnace at the same time to stay warm.
