Review: Jotul F 100 Nordic QT
Jotul F 100 Nordic QT
We love this little stove. It replaced a gas insert last fall, so was set out from the wall by a 20" horizontal stovepipe because of the existing wooden mantel -- we were afraid it might affect the draw but there was no problem. Our house is a 1700 sf rambler, and the stove is in the living room and basically heats that room, living room and family room -- keeping the bedrooms in the back cool. Last night my husband put in a small piece of wood before bed and still had good coals 6 hours later. The thing comes up to 300 degrees in a matter of minutes. A little smoke sometimes escapes but not really a problem. We are burning mostly dry maple and alder, a little cedar and fir. The business we purchased it from did a complete install with an extended hearth, additional chimney liner and cap. We keep the heat pump at 67 during the day, and it rarely comes on unless the daytime temps remain in the 30's during the day and teens - twenties at night. We've used a little over half a cord in 2 1/2 months. We wish we would have gotten this years ago. We figure it will pay for itself (including the cost of the install) in 3 years with lower electric bills and that's including the cost of the firewood!
