NU-TEC Upland 207
I bought the Upland 207 in Sept of 2013. I had no experience with pellet stoves prior to owning this one. The idea of over-seeing the operation of a heat source with multiple moving parts was intimidating for the first few months. We have no repair service to speak of in this region of Vermont outside of the shops (The Stove Depot etc) which service only those units they sell. And we did have our share of hiccups. The stove either came with a broken flute on the auger or a weld on the flute failed after we ran it for a month or so. The auger made a banging sound as it tried to jam the pellets up into the burn pot. It was nerve-wracking and I didn't know what was wrong. Finally, in talking with the manufacturer (I even recorded the sound of the auger for John) we got a new auger for free and I gingerly removed the broken one and replaced it. It slid right into place. We fired up the stove and it worked flawlessly (and quietly!) all last winter and is working fine since we started it on October 21st this fall. The only other problem we encountered was a broken door handle which may have been caused by metal fatigue. In any event, we got a new one shipped immediately from Tennessee and everything has been golden ever since. I am now a master (or experienced apprentice) on the operation of this stove and we couldn't be happier. We use a 40 lb bag a day and just over 1.5 tons a season which heats our 1,500 sq ft, two-story house to 70 degrees while the oil furnace kicks on mostly at night and even then far less frequently than prior to the pellet stove. We have cut our oil bill by almost 2/3. The advertised capability of this stove to use any quality pellets I think has been borne out by our experience. We have tried Vermont Wood Pellets which are 100% softwood, Telescope Wood Pellets (from the outdoor furniture mgfer in Granville, N.Y.) which are 100% hardwood and pellets from the local Curtis Lumber store that are 60/40 softwood to hardwood. We found almost no difference, excepting the more pleasant aroma of Vermont Wood Pellets since they use no adhesive in manufacturing the pellets (it actually smells like wood). I recommend this stove to everyone. Pellets are a sustainable, more efficient way of heating your home. Fossil fuels should be banned. Climate change is here to stay.
