Lopi Leyden
We've had this stove about two years now and overall are quite happy with it. We wanted a stove that would give us an "overnight" burn and it will do that with the proper fuel. Larger pieces of dense, dry wood should give you a long burn. Smaller pieces just go too fast and the firebox has too much "air" in it. The stove is easy to regulate with the single air control on the front. Opening the ash drawer 1/4 inch or more will giove you a great draft to get your fire going or get embers to catch a new log. Do close it down before you leave the room as the fire can really start to rumble if you leave it open. The manual recommends opening a door slightly to stat a fire, but the ash drawer seems even better as it lets in air *underneath* the wood. Never been able to get the windows to stay clean for long. Sometimes better than others but they often need to be cleaned daily if seeing your fire clearly is important to you. A little ash on a damp paper towel cleans and polishes them quickly. (Do it when the stove id dead cold though!) The flat top is great for cooking or heating or just setting a pan of water for winter humidity. It will stain and discolor though if you spill, so be advised and watch your liquids. I do believe that the design of the firebox and rear combuster openings could be improved upon though. they're very low to the floor and it's very easy to push ashes into the openings. That there are some fragile baffles inside those openings is also a problem as if you try to clean out ashes, you may end up buying a $60 part. (don't ask). This small but significant problem is exacerbated by the stoves floor which doesn't easily self-empty of ashes. Along those lines - this stove *should* have come with an ash rake - but none was provided. Had I not gotten an ash rake with a previous stove, I never would have known what I was missing and don;t know how I would have moved ash without taking embers along for the ride. Get yourself an ash rake on Amazon or the like. Makes a world of difference. What makes about the same abount of sense is that Lopi *does* provide a huge "poker" with the stove - which I've never needed for the stove - but it comes in handy for my outdoor firepit. Lopi should dump the poker and opt for supplying an ash rake. The front and top door handles get VERY hot and will burn your fingers. Other stoves solve this problem with wooden or spring coil handles. Save yourself some lost skin and keep a pair of welding gloves nearby. This stove is rated to heat 2,000 Sq Ft and we only have 750 - but I opted for this stove because I wanted a physically larger firebox and I can heat up my cabin in a HURRY. Throttling down is no problem and with practice you can maintain comfortable temperatures easily. It seems to burn very cleanly and smoke is no issue. the stove will easily last a lifetime and heat every bit as well as it's more expensive cousins.
