Review: Jotul F 100 Nordic QT
Jotul F 100 Nordic QT
The Jotul F100 is our primary source of heat for the full year in North Idaho for the last 6 years. I can't say enough about this little stove. It takes awhile to get used to its characteristics as it is not at all like some of the big steel plate stoves we have had in the past. It starts quickly, burns cleanly, and we usually damper it all the way down every night and run the damper only about one third open throughout the day. I have had on many, many occasions a blue flame-only fire with internal temperatures in excess of 2300 degrees. The only quirk I had to learn was the proper adjustment on the vent at the bottom of the stove. It took me three tries to get it right for the natural draft to even out, but was well worth the effort. There are enough coals left in the morning to start a new blazing fire in 5 minutes or less, every morning. Our wood consumption has gone down dramatically also. We burn 3 1/2 to 4 cords per year to heat our 1100 sq. ft. house. We like it warm, so that would also be at about 80 degrees! We burn a mix of what is local, White Fir, Red Fir, and Tamarack and the old adage stands true with this stove, "Two dry burn one wet". I have used nothing but steel plate and cast Iron stoves for 50+years for heat, and for the money and economy of wood, this little stove can't be beat.
