Napoleon NPS40
As Napoleon’s only model of pellet stove currently available, the company may have put a lot into the NPS40. Available with a 3" flue, the stove’s burn rate according to the specs is 1-5 lbs/hr. The hopper capacity is 55 lbs with top and front fuel loading for convenience.
Some of the other standard additional features of the NPS40 include an automatic ignitor, variable speed auger and blower, a glass air wash system, and an extra large ash pan. Napoleon does not describe the stove’s overall efficiency.

I love it! I don't seem to have any of the problems that the others have stated. The blower isn't too loud and it is very easy to start. The insert is harder to fill as the fill whole is narrower than the NPS-40. But, it looks great and heats great, and it has saved us a bunch in oil fuel this winter. I think the stove does a great job. It will save me enough oil this year to pay for itself. It does require more care than I thought it would however i don't think its the stoves fault at all. We bought our Napoleon insert and have had almost no problems. The fan DOES get periodically noisy, but it is intermittent and not bothersome. It seems to go away when I let it rest for a while. We've had it going almost 24/7 since November '08. Buying this stove was a mistake. When first installed it only ran for 15 minutes and shut off. Tech support said it may be low temp switch. The retailer was no help, so I played with the low temp switch and got it running. Then after one month the convection fan was so loud I had to shut it off. The stove is a piece of Junk. The engineering on this is done by morons. They put a Flanged joint on the fresh air fan and a Slip joint wit silicone to seal it on the Combustion side. as an example. I was a bit hesistant after reading some of these reports to buy this stove but Consumer Reports rated it fairly highly so I went ahead. I'm glad I did. First year of use the stove was great, more than I anticipated. A small constant flame is heating the whole house (approx 1800sf) to 70F in conjunction with a radiant floor set at 60F. However, the quality of pellets is less than desired now and leaves hard clumped ash in the burn chamber and needs to be emptied at least every 24 hours. Purchased the stove to heat a large family room. The stove produces adequate heat and runs reliably. However, the auger motor makes a low whine each time it turns. The noise will drive you out of the room after a while.The dealer replaced the auger motor, the noise stopped for two weeks, but has now returned.

As an installer of the napoleon pellet stove I am satisfied with the overall results. We installed 52 nps40 in Bangor, ME area and have only 3 problems and two were customes not understanding how they work. The only mechanical problem we had was the blower switch breaking down and causing the fan to only run on high. I have had no problems with noice. The fan switch had to be replace a couple months after I bought it, it was only blowing at one speed. The problem I have it that is does not seem to heat up the area. I have a very small home and can barely get the main room to even near 70°.
